Preface

The Amsterdam Journal of Social Sciences closes out our most successful year to date. With more publications and events than ever before, we conclude the 2025/2026 academic year with this printed edition. Such a prolific output was made possible with the steady growth of our team and the tireless efforts of the Board and the editors behind the scenes. This year, we took it upon ourselves to bring to life an evolved vision of the AJSS, based on accessibility, consensus, and a consideration for the future. We hope to see it continue to flourish, and that you will be there to witness it.

In times of increasing censorship within mainstream publishing, we strive to provide an independent outlet for Social Science students and their research. Through our publications and collaborations, we have platformed diversity, intersectionality, and resistance – contributing to the opposition of the rise in anti-intellectualism. In this printed edition, you will find articles on feminism, diaspora, queer rights – to name a few of the topics covered. The AJSS will continue to remain a pillar of integrity in student publishing for all the upcoming academics wanting to be heard.

The year’s success would not have been possible without our community. The workshops, symposia, and special editions were all organized with the mission to bring the world of academia closer to you, providing a glimpse of the environments you can inhabit one day as a researcher. Your presence and involvement keep us motivated and remind us of why we do this in the first place. So thank you for coming, for all the questions and the post event chats.

We are proud to present to you our final printed edition of the year. There will be more to come after the summer. We hope you enjoy and engage with this fine selection.
