In 2021 a group of students came together to begin the initiative that is now known as the Amsterdam Journal of Social Sciences (AJSS). The goal was simple: to create a platform for early-career researchers to publish their work whether they are Bachelor, Master, or PhD students. The hope was also to encourages students to engage with the academic publishing process, filling the gap often left by a traditional university education.
Today, AJSS is a student-led, peer-reviewed, academic journal, supported by the Graduate School of Social Sciences (GSSS), College of Social Sciences (CSS), and Amsterdam Institute for Social Sciences Research (AISSR) at the University of Amsterdam.
As a part of university community we not only publish papers, but seek to create an active hub of students passionate about improving, and making academia more accessible.

The Journal Initiative
The AJSS takes an interdisciplinary approach to contemporary debates in the Social Sciences. In addition to academic research articles, AJSS also accepts commentaries, literature reviews, book reviews, and theoretical essays. The journal is open to developing new submission types for authors who do not recognize themselves in the above-mentioned types. AJSS runs a permanent open call and publishes organically, in line with the flow of submissions, through its online platform. We also produce two printed editions for the fall and spring semester.
The organization consists of two main teams: the Board and the Editorial Team. The Board organizes outreach, administration, and community-building while the Editorial Team edits, reviews, and publishes the journal.

The Editorial Team
The editorial Team consists of a revolving group of students who edit, review, and publish the articles submitted to the AJSS. The team usually consists about 10-12 students but we always have more spots open for those interested in learning about editing and reviewing. Editorial Team
The AJSS counts on a committed editorial team of esteemed students and early-career scholars from the University of Amsterdam. As part of overseeing content from submission all the way to publication, the editorial team handles the following activities:
