The Amsterdam Journal of Social Sciences (AJSS) is a student-led journal affiliated with the University of Amsterdam. We aim to provide an interdisciplinary approach to contemporary debates in Social Science. Our mission is to ensure a platform for students to publish their work, exchange ideas, and be part of an academic community. To keep on doing so, the AJSS is looking for enthusiastic students who want to be part of a student-led journal in the following academic year, 2025 - 2026
The editorial team consists of members from all social scientific disciplines (including psychology) who work to edit and review submissions that the AJSS receives from students at the UvA. As an editor at the AJSS you will be editing submissions according to the guidelines of our Editor’s Checklist. In doing so, the editorial team also determines if an article is ready to be published, has to be reviewed, or is to be rejected. In the reviewing process, you work together with another reviewer to critically engage with the content of the text, going beyond grammar and structure and into the fundamental argument of the text.
To ensure the work of the editorial team runs smoothly, we have weekly hour-long meetings, (which should ideally be attended at least twice a month) and are organized by the Editor-in-Chief.
The Editor-in-Chief’s role includes organizing weekly meetings, receiving submissions, and assigning editors and reviewers to those submissions. The Editor-in-Chief is also a formally board member and Co-chair, and should therefore be available to attend board meetings and communicate the progress of the editorial team to the board. The role requires good interpersonal communication skills and an organized approach, as you need to keep track of the progress of different papers and facilitate a good team dynamic.
To be part of the Editorial Team you can send in a short (max 300 words) letter of motivation to ajss@uva.nl, detailing potential relevant previous experience and why you are want to be part of the board. Please make sure to specify if you are interested in becoming Editor-in-chief as well.
