Workshop: Giving Good Feedback

When: Wednesday, 29th of November, 11:00-13:00h

Where: UvA REC, A2.11

Retrospectives:

The AJSS peer-reviewing workshop, facilitated by Eric-Jan Wagenmakers and organized with the help of the Amsterdam Institute of Social Science Research, is sure to have left a lasting impact on attending students, PhDs, and AJSS team members.

The event was made especially engaging by Wagenmakers' fusion of practical advice and personal anecdotes. Through relatable narratives, he conveyed the best practices within not only the peer-reviewing process, but also journals more broadly. And owing to his extensive experience writing, reviewing and editing research reports, Wagenmakers was able to walk participants through the publishing journey of a paper from all perspectives. Thus, no matter their background or aspirations, attendees were sure to gain insights about parts of the process that they were not previously familiar with.

Thus, we hope that participants left the event equipped with a better understanding of academic peer-reviewing. Armed with practical insights and supplementary materials kindly provided by the speaker, they are well-positioned to be more constructive and confident reviewers.
