When: November 20, 2023, 15.30-17.30
Where: UvA REC, The Bridge
Retrospectives:
The Amsterdam Journal of Social Sciences (AJSS) wants to thank everyone involved in the successful execution of the Gender Diversity Conference we held on last week’s Monday, November 20th. A special thank you to the fantastic panel, the engaged audience, and our partners, the UvA CSR (Central Student Council). Together, we explored important topics like identity, grassroots organization, decolonization, accessibility and community, making it a night full of insights.
To keep the conversation going and to expand on the inputs from the conference – We're excited to share a research collective within the AJSS. This is a space in our journal where scholars, students, practitioners and experts by experience can collaborate and share their ideas. The aim of the collective is still to be determined, but one thing is for sure; together we will keep amplifying the voices of those who yet are to be listened to. The collective is to do this by analyzing the most current data from the UvA on gender diversity – but also by theorizing new concepts and tools to enhance equality beyond the university walls.
We are ready to engage and facilitate important conversations making sure the AJSS isn't just a library of knowledge but a lively community that grows with everyone's contributions.
The response from the academic community has been great. The research collective is connecting people beyond the university, including voices that haven't been heard enough in academic discussions. This must remain a big take-away from the conference – Who is inclusion aiming at including; and how can we make sure marginalization is not reproduced in the same aim.
As the AJSS, we're pumped about the impact this research collective will keep having. It's making our journal more collaborative, inclusive, and meaningful. Thanks to everyone who made the Gender Diversity Conference and the research collective launch such a success. We are excited to see where this new collective will take us. We are also thrilled to see what our next conference will teach us and who we will be collaborating with. Our aim is clear; Together we can foster new communities and further academic research amongst young scholars.
