Are you interested in becoming our next community builder / treasurer / secretary?

The Amsterdam Journal of Social Sciences (AJSS) is a student-led journal affiliated with the University of Amsterdam. We aim to provide an interdisciplinary approach to contemporary debates in Social Science. Our mission is to ensure a platform for students to publish their work, exchange ideas, and be part of an academic community. In ensuring these different functions, the AJSS consists of different teams that work together. We are looking for the following new members:

Application 1: Community Builder

5 hours a week

Would you like to organize public events and build a community for a student-led academic journal? As an academic journal led by students, AJSS aims to allow students to get familiar with the diverse processes that take place in a journal. Besides offering experience in the academic process of publishing, the AJSS also wants to create an environment in which students from different disciplines work together and exchange ideas and experiences. 

As a community builder for the AJSS, you play a pivotal role in engaging with our diverse community of students, academics, and professionals to strengthen the community, impact, and outreach of the AJSS. In doing so, the team of community builders develops a strategy to enhance the visibility and stability of the AJSS at the University of Amsterdam and beyond. You will organize events and workshops while also seeking out external opportunities to enhance the journal's progression.

What we’re looking for: 

• You’re enthusiastic, social, and proactive

• You’re interested in fostering an inclusive and welcoming community through team events 

• As well as (academic) events for the external public

• Experience in growing the visibility of a student-led organization would be great, but is not a requirement!

Application 2: Treasurer 

3 hours a week

Would you like to help manage and support a student-led academic journal behind the scenes? As treasurer for the AJSS, you play an important role in ensuring the financial stability and organization of the journal. You will oversee the budget, monitor expenses, and support the board in making financially sustainable decisions. In collaboration with the rest of the team, you will also help explore funding opportunities, sponsorships, and partnerships that contribute to the journal’s growth and continuity.

What we’re looking for:

• You plan to be studying at the uva for at least 2 more years 

• You’re organized, reliable, and detail-oriented

• You’re comfortable working with budgets, spreadsheets, and financial planning

• You can work independently while also collaborating closely with the board

• Experience with budgeting, or finance-related tasks would be great, but is not a requirement!

Application 3: Secretary 

5 hours a week

Would you like to help coordinate and organize a student-led academic journal? AJSS is looking for a secretary! 

As secretary for the AJSS, you play a central role in supporting the organization and communication within the journal. You will help coordinate meetings, keep track of important documents and set deadlines, and help manage communication with collaborateurs. In doing so, you contribute to the continuity and structure of the AJSS and help create an efficient and collaborative working environment. You’ll be an all-round chameleon!

What we’re looking for:

• You plan to be studying at the uva for at least 2 more years 

• You’re organized, proactive, and communicative

• You’re able to keep overview and manage multiple tasks and deadlines

• You’re comfortable coordinating meetings and handling internal communication

• You enjoy collaborating with others

• You’re ambitious and enthusiastic about the future of the journal.
